At the time she was a grad student, who, among working on her master’s thesis and TA-ing would often bake and occasionally throw parties at her apartment for the other people in her program. My first encounter with Martha Stewart’s iconic ‘80s book Entertaining (her first) came when I bought the title for my older sister as a gift. It wasn’t the first time I had that thought and I guarantee it won’t be the last. “Martha Stewart ruined my life.” It was the Friday night before my birthday and instead of going out with friends or catching up on that week’s Riverdale, I was standing in my kitchen, hovering above my oven, waiting for the timer to go off so I could whisk two layers of lemon cake over to a set of cooling racks.
